Vintage 2002 Mambo Australia "Cultural Cringe" Tee

Poking fun at the greatest neighborly rivalry in the Southern Hemisphere

This is the rare vintage 2002 "Cultural Cringe" tee by Mambo Graphics, titled "The Kangaroo That Has Gone to Live in New Zealand". The artwork is illustrated by the legendary Reg Mombassa (Chris O'Doherty).

Playing on the sociological term "Cultural Cringe" (the internalized feeling of cultural inferiority), Reg Mombassa—who was born in New Zealand before becoming an Australian national treasure—created this hilarious postcard comic of Australia's national symbol trying to blend in across the ditch.

The illustration shows a kangaroo wearing a black beanie, holding a rugby ball (New Zealand's ultimate religion!), standing awkwardly amidst rolling green hills, sheep, and snowy peaks.

Printed on a thick, natural off-white cream blank with the classic Mambo eye scroll on the front. Classic Aussie counter-culture humor that never gets old.
